Mrs. Stephenson

Welcome to Middle School Physical Education class 2017-18!

The goal of the Middle School Physical Education program is to encourage our students to become interested, enthusiastic and lifelong movers!

Students will have opportunities to experience a wide variety of individual, team and cooperative experiences that strive to help improve their health and physical attributes but also encourage their social, intellectual and emotional intelligences.

Activities throughout the year include but are not limited to team sports, individual sports, wellness activities, rhythms (dance), food and nutrition, physical fitness and cooperative/traditional games.

Students' grades are derived each day from participation (60%), physical skills (30%) and social skills (10%).

Information regarding grades will be given to parent's every 5 weeks in the form of comments on their progress reports.  Every 10 weeks numerical grades will be provided to parents on report cards.  You will be contacted sooner should your child not be doing well in class because of lack of preparation or other reason that warrants collaboration and intervention.  If you would like information regarding your child's progress and grade sooner than as indicated above, please send me an email and I will be happy to provide you with the information that you may seek.

Students are asked to change into gym clothing each class for good health and hygiene.  Students are asked not to bring home gym clothes until first a fresh set is brought in.  A good rule of thumb is that fresh clothes should be brought in minimumly every 2 weeks.

Students are required to have a written note from the doctor to be excused from participation.  This note should be given to our school nurse.  A note of excuse from a parent or guardian is okay for one day.  Beyond one day, a doctor's note is required.

If your child is hurt in class, I ask that they please let me know immediately.   We have a school nurse and the sooner they are evaluated and treated,  the sooner will be their healing and recovery.  They should not leave class without first reporting their injury to me.

I want to help, however I cannot, unless ALL issues, medical and others, are brought to my attention.  As in the children's book, "The Gym Teacher from the Black Lagoon", your child will soon find out ( if not known to them already), that I am friendly teacher and have the sincere desire to promote their learning, and ensure their safety and overall well-being.   If your child has asthma, bee sting allergies, et. al. please be sure to bring in medications and secure them in the nurse's office.

I look forward to working with you and your child.  By working together we can encourage the love of learning through positive movement experiences that build self-esteem and strong healthy bodies under conditions that are both safe and enjoyable.

Please feel free to contact me at  for assistance at any time.  I am here to help!!
